What is Tai Chi?

Tai Chi, also spelled Taiji or Taijiquan, is an ancient Chinese martial art that is practiced for its health benefits, meditation, and self-defense techniques. It is characterized by slow, gentle, and flowing movements that are performed with deep relaxation and focused breathing. Tai Chi is often referred to as a moving meditation because it combines physical movements with mental concentration and mindfulness.

The origins of Tai Chi can be traced back to the 13th century in China, although its roots are believed to be much older. The practice was developed based on principles of Taoism, a philosophical and spiritual tradition in China. Tai Chi incorporates the concept of yin and yang, the balance of opposing forces, and the flow of qi (life energy) within the body.
